Keto Bagels

Bagels and cream cheese. Bagel sandwiches. Bagels. Bagels. Bagels! 

When you’re restricting carbohydrates, sometimes all you want is a darn bagel! 

Well, as we have learned over the last year and a half, the same recipe can be modified to accommodate many different dishes - with the most versatile recipe probably being fathead dough. From pizza to biscuits, fathead dough is easy and delicious, and it doesn’t disappoint when used for bagels as well.

We just recently celebrated our son’s 4th birthday with a 3-day carb binge of cupcakes and pizza, so our carb cravings have been pretty significant over the last week (darn sugar triggers!). When Bryan said he was really craving a bagel with cream cheese and I said I really wanted a sandwich wrapped in something other than lettuce, Bryan came through with some easy and delicious fathead bagels.

Admittedly, we have already eaten all 6, but Bryan will be making another batch this weekend so we can make a Philly favorite...fried pork roll, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches. YUM. What will you put on your Keto bagels??


1.5 cups almond flour

1 Tbsp baking powder

2.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

2 Tbsp cream cheese, cubed 

2 eggs, whisked

Everything Bagel seasoning or Sesame Seeds


Preheat oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Stir together almond flour and baking powder. Set aside.

Combine shredded mozzarella and cubed cream cheese in large microwaveable bowl. Microwave for 1 minute. Stir well. Microwave for 1 additional minute. Stir again until well incorporated.

Stir the eggs and flour mixture into the melted cheese mixture. Working quickly, knead with your hands until a dough forms. The dough will be very sticky, but keep kneading and squeezing through your fingers. (NOTE: Dough must be completely uniform before proceeding to the next step. There should not be pieces of cheese separate from areas of almond flour.)

Divide dough into 6 parts. Form a long log with each part, then press the ends together to make a bagel shape. Place on lined baking sheet.

If using seasoning, sprinkle on top and gently press seasoning into dough.

Bake at 400F for 10-14 minutes, until bagels are firm and golden.
